Let me know if you have any problems, but so far all seems to have migrated well, and hopefully you'll find the changes useful. I've also made a bunch of tweaks to all the pages which should make them load a lot quicker than they have previously this year, a lot of redundant code is now gone, and generally the site is now easier for me to maintain. You've probably also noticed that there haven't been any new tutorials here for quite some time. Unfortunately at present I just don't have the time to continue making them. That's not to say that will always be the case though, and I'm always happy to hear from anyone who would like to write a tutorial on any aspect of game development in Delphi. If you're trying to get up to speed with Delphi, might I recommend checking out 3D Buzz's Delphi video tutorials. There are presently 9 tutorials, and I've created a Youtube playlist of them so you can easily watch them. High resolution versions of these videos are available from 3D Buzz within their Delphi classroom, so if you like what you see on youtube, go and sign up there, download the higher resolution versions, and leave some comments in the forums about what you think of them, or any questions you have. That's all for now, hope everyone is enjoying the holiday season. Have a good New Year! Ben (12:24 PM) Friday, October 06, 2006 3D Buzz Delphi Training Series: Programming 101 - Episode 1 (and Episode 2) Following on from the recent release of the free Turbo Delphi version, I thought there might be many of you who will be interested in some video tutorials introducing Delphi from the ground up. Well just such a thing exists, thanks to our friends over at 3D Buzz. This is the first part of a new training series on programming in Delphi, and they use Turbo Delphi Explorer Edition throughout. Nobody does training videos quite like 3D Buzz, so give it a shot and whilst you're at it, go take a look at 3D Buzz for more videos. If you enjoy this video, please click anywhere on it to head over to youtube, and give it your rating or comments. You can also check out the second video in the series as well here! Ben (8:37 PM) Thursday, October 05, 2006 Turbo Delphi Explorer Edition available for free As posted sometime ago, Turbo Delphi Explorer Edition has indeed been released over on Borland's dedicated site for it here. Well worth checking out, here's a quick guide to getting it all installed. Head to and download and install the following in this order: Turbo Explorer prerequisites Turbo Delphi Explorer edition Turbo Explorer hotfix rollup (the first download listed on the page) Turbo Explorer Prerequisites The Prerequisities can be downloaded as one zip file from the above site, but some of them you will probably already have. They are as follows: Microsoft Internet Explorer v6.0 SP1 Microsoft .NET Framework v1.1 Microsoft .NET Framework v1.1 SP1 Microsoft .NET Framework SDK v1.1 Microsoft XML Core Services (MSXML) v4.0 SP2 Microsoft Visual J# .NET v1.1 Redistributable When you go to install Turbo Delphi, the setup is supposed to start Borland's bootstrap utility to check for these prerequisites before continuing, but it didn't in my case - meaning it can install without meeting these conditions. Run the 'prereqs.exe' in the Install directory wherever you extract the temporary files to, and you'll be asked if you want to install any prerequisites that aren't present already on your PC. If you've extracted the prereqs zip file to the same directory as you put the temporary setup files in, you should be able to install these as part of the Bootstrap Utility. Turbo Delphi Explorer edition In order to run Turbo Delphi Explorer Edition itself, you need to head to to get a product key. Create yourself a BDN login with if you don't have one already (which is free). You can install without having the product key in place, but you won't be able to actually use it until you've placed your product key text file in your Home directory. The home directory is outlined in the e-mail Borland will send you, but it will normally be 'C:\Documents and Settings\' if you're using Windows 2000 or XP. Turbo Explorer hotfix rollup Once you've installed Turbo Delphi Explorer Edition, you should install the hotfix rollup. This is just a rougly 8MB download, and the actual install of this hotfix rollup only takes a few seconds. You're now ready to start using Turbo Delphi - enjoy! Ben (7:54 PM) Wednesday, August 09, 2006 Turbo Delphi Explorer (Free!) and Professional Editions due early September Just when many had given Delphi (and Borland) up for dead, Borland have announced that the old Turbo name of days gone by is to return. This September (2006) you'll be able to download for free Turbo Delphi and Turbo Delphi for .NET Explorer Editions. Since the demise of free Personal Edition downloads of Delphi, the interest in the language has been rapidly declining, so this is good news indeed. There are also going to be Professional Editions with slightly more competitive pricing than we've seen previously, but the real interest will be in the Explorer Editions. There's more information on the complete Turbo range (there's Turbo C++ and C# as well) at, plus specific information on Turbo Delphi here and Turbo Delphi .NET here. Hopefully it's not too little, too late... Ben (12:09 PM) Saturday, April 23, 2005 Delphi 2005 Personal starts appearing on magazine discs The first UK magazine to hold Delphi 2005 Personal Edition on their disc is PC Pro. You'll need to buy the DVD edition to get it, but it's a small price to pay I guess. Germany's "PC-Magazin" is also reported to have it on their cover disc. If anyone else sees it do let us know and this post will be updated. Ben (11:02 PM) Saturday, April 09, 2005 All old forum posts now archived If you take a look in the 'Old Forum Posts' section of the forums you'll discover that ALL posts from our old forums from the previous incarnation of this site are now there and archived for your browsing pleasure. This is completely and utterly down to the hard work of one of our members - Ferasso. He has over the last few months copied over about 160 different threads covering all sorts of areas of Delphi games programming - an excellent source of informa... Whois
